Houston House Build Project
Donation protected
On October 13th, a group of friends from Venice Beach are setting off to Port Arthur, TX, to join with the NOLA Tree Project in rebuilding houses devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
We will be spending two days with Ms Judy, a Port Arthur resident, helping to clean and gut her home, to hang insulation and sheetrock, and to install flooring.
Our aim is to raise $5000 that can go into restoring her house, purchasing new furniture, and giving her a home again! Please Note: we are covering all travel costs and personal expenses - any donation you make will go directly towards the rebuild.
Here is Ms Judy's story:
Judy Barnard and her husband Kenneth have lived in their home for 25 years. When Hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas last month, the Barnard’s home filled with five feet of water that sat for two weeks before the water receded. Their home, and everything they own was left covered in mold and toxic sludge. They’ve literally lost everything they own.
In the weeks following the hurricane, Kenneth worked night and day to drag all of their soaked belongings out to a pile on the street, and to begin removing the moldy carpet, sheetrock, cabinets, and insulation. Ms Judy, who’s suffering from stage four lung cancer helped as much as she could.
Tragically, Mr Barnard collapsed with a heart attack and passed away last week leaving Ms Judy alone and homeless.
Mr Judy's story is one of many tragedies in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Her story has moved us to action - and we can't wait to meet with her and transform her home!
Thank you to the NOLA Tree for welcoming on this project.
We're asking you, our friends and family, to dig deep and be generous: let's transform Ms Judy's life and bring some hope and joy to Houston!
