House Fire Just Hours After Delivery

Hi, my name is Lisa. On Monday, December 5th, we welcomed our second granddaughter, Reighna. Early on the morning of Wednesday, December 7th, the dreaded call came that, while my daughter and new granddaughter were still in the hospital and due to go home any hour, their apartment caught fire!

They lost absolutely everything!!!

I am heartbroken beyond words.

My daughter, three-year-old granddaughter, Laylah (pictured above) and 3-day old granddaughter Reighna (also pictured above just hours old), along with their older brother, Terrence, are now homeless with utterly nothing to their names.

We are grateful to some truly wonderful people and organizations in our community for all they have come forward with: baby items, clothes, kitchenware, and the like. It warms our hearts to no end to see how many people have come together to help in this time of dire need.

With those necessities taken care of, any assistance you are willing to give to this fundraiser will go directly toward securing an apartment for them.

Most of you are probably aware that rent prices are insane, and my area is no different. Housing itself is scarce, and "affordable housing" is practically non-existent. None of the local agencies, such as 211, have been unwilling or unable to assist this family. They have been turned away by many organizations that tout how helpful they are in times like this.

At current, it costs a whopping $2,000/month to keep a roof over their heads in a hotel room. No, it's not a fancy hotel with room service. It's just a moderately safe interim place. That's 1 room for 5 people, including an active toddler and an infant. That IS rent on a permanent place to live.

We just have to find it.

When that Miracle of Miracles happens, we will need at least first, last, and security to get them in. We'd like to have a little extra to hold them over while they get on their feet and, of course, to celebrate Baby's First Christmas.
