Home Destroyed after EF-2 Tornado

6 days ago my best friend’s world was shaken!
Here’s her story:
“My condo was directly in the path of a EF-2 tornado, which had max speeds of 115 MPH. It seemed like any normal Friday morning as I drank my coffee outside on my porch but that all changed when I heard the sound of my weather radar go off. It was only seconds after I received the tornado warning that I heard the sound of a train headed towards me. I grabbed my cat and sheltered in the bathtub while on the phone with my aunt. The walls around me began to shake as tree after tree began to fall on and around my home. As tears streamed down my face panic set in and I thought this was it, I was not sure if I was going to live through this. Thankfully after a few minutes I realized it had passed. I went outside to see the damage but I was unable to get out of my door since a massive tree had fallen in front, blocking my exit. I could hear my neighbors outside in shock of what they were seeing. It wasn’t until my neighbors cut down the tree to get me out that I saw my home. I was in utter disbelief of what I was seeing. The amount of damage a tornado can create in minutes is mind blowing. I just stood there frozen.
It’s been six days and counting with no assistance from anyone to remove the trees. It looks the same as it did on Friday when the tornadoes hit. The roof above me in my neighbor’s condo has now caved in throughout multiple rooms of his home. Which has caused water damage to begin pouring out from my electrical fixtures & vents- all over my home. They’re still three massive trees on my roof. We have not received any assistance from the city or private organizations for tree removal. I was on the local news to give my story but we’ve yet to see any state or city assistance outside of The Salvation Army bringing all the affected ones food. They have not been able to adequately tarp the roof due to the trees still not removed. The HOA of the complex has done everything in his power, however it is not enough. We all desperately need help. As we were there packing up my condo to take my belongings to a storage unit- a new tree had fallen from the ground from the ground being so saturated. I don’t even have the words to express how loved I feel by my friends and family who came to the rescue to move me out quickly. They came alongside of me and surrounded me with love and support as I walked through the aftermath of this tornado.”
Our friends and family have done everything that we can possibly do for Katherine. Unfortunately we financially can only help so much. I’ve decided to create this GoFundMe to help support her as much as possible, due to her having no home owners insurance. She has lost her home, fortunately all belongings are accounted for, and she is safe. Now starting over is where she has to begin and allotting more expense for multiple storage units. This life changing moment has also affected her small business Renewed Roots Collective. She works full time alongside with her small biz after hours. Her life has completely been changed from the tornado and will be a long term situation. Any donation truly will help my best friend. We are grateful for every cent.
