Hiking for Equal Justice Initiative
Detraibile fiscalmente
In celebration of the life of Emmett Till, and in recognition for the continued need for change in our deeply flawed legal system, Nicolas Schroeder and Charlie Keys McKay are hiking 6,164 feet of elevation over 28 miles along the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail, starting at Waddell Creek, on July 25th, the late Mr.Till’s birthday and day of remembrance. Our goal is to raise awareness and support for Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit organization which draws attention to the ongoing history of lynching in the United States and fosters meaningful dialogue about its implications on our society and culture. EJI also works to affect meaningful change in the criminal justice system through advocacy and direct representation of wrongfully-convicted and death row inmates, and continually challenges racial discrimination and racial bias throughout the jury and legal system. Charity Navigator, a non-profit charity assessment organization awarded EJI a perfect overall score regarding finances, accountability and transparency.
Through our act of remembrance for Mr.Till, we hope to raise at least $6,164 to be donated to EJI---$1 for every foot of elevation we gain. Every dollar is a small step towards progress, and we encourage anyone moved by the history of racial violence in our country or by EJI’s mission to donate what they can!
In-depth overviews of EJI’s initiatives in criminal justice reform, racial justice, and public education can be found on their website: https://eji.org/.
