Walking 60 miles to send ambulances to Ukraine

A Suffolk fundraiser led by local women to kickstart the renewed efforts for 2026.

This autumn, Suffolk women will walk the 60-mile Sandlings Way to raise £16,000 for Help2Ukraine - enough to send two ambulances full of medical supplies to the frontline in Ukraine and a huge contribution to our overarching goal of £32,000.

The walk is being led by Southwold’s Erika Clegg DL, and takes place over three consecutive days. Each day carries a different theme reflecting the situation in Ukraine, and a different walking companion for Erika: from a solo day walking peacefully with her dog, to a joint walk with her teenage son, ending with a longer group walk with other women.

The route

Day One: Peace Friday 3rd October – Ipswich to Rendlesham Forest

Day Two: Hope Saturday 4th October – Rendlesham to Sizewell

Day Three: Solidarity Sunday 5th October – Sizewell to Southwold Pier

A 20-mile walk by Suffolk women, reflecting the strength and resilience of our sisters in Ukraine who continue to hold families, communities and essential services together under unimaginable pressure.

Why ambulances?

Help2Ukraine buys decommissioned ambulances through a trusted medical network and stocks each one with around £120,000 of donated medical equipment. They are then driven to the Ukraine border and transferred into the country for frontline use, helping to save lives almost immediately.

Each ambulance costs £8,000 to buy and deliver. Raising £16,000 will cover two vehicles and the medical supplies they’ll carry.

Please can you support us?

Your donation will help us to keep our spirits high whilst we honour our sisters in Ukraine and reach our target of £16,000 to take vital medical supplies to the frontline.

Between 2024 and 2025 we have now raised in excess of £70,000 to date. We now seek to raise funds to take at least 4 more Ambulances in 2026.

Funds raised will be used to pay exclusively for Ex NHS Ambulances, for their preparation for the journey to Ukraine, for their fitting out, MOTs, tools, for their insurance and breakdown insurance, and the cost of rooms, fuel, and air tickets and for our return. Sustenance, drink and other costs will be paid for personally by those of us involved so that the funds you so kindly give to us go entirely into the task of raising the funds and getting the ambulances and medical supplies to Ukraine.

When peace finally comes to Ukraine, the requirement for these vehicles and medical supplies will long remain to manage the wounded and crippled. The clear up and rebuilding operation will be years in the making. The wounded will long need extra transport and supplies.

Thank you for your great support.
