My name is Zoi Monroy. I was born and raised in my home country of Venezuela. After overcoming many obstacles in my home country, I moved to Canada to begin a new life. I had to learn English fast and adjust to a new culture in the different cities that I lived in once I moved here. I am no stranger to challenges and was determined to fit into this awesome country of Canada. Although everything was “FINE” after settling into my new home, I felt there was something missing, that I had not fulfilled my potential. In a whirlwind, my life collapsed. I was frustrated because nothing was working the way it should anymore. Things had to change both personally and professionally and big changes were on the horizon.
My family still lives in Venezuela. My mom, (Iraida), is having a hard time finding food, staying safe, and live well. This list of hardships that my family face it would be too long to put them all here but one doesn’t have to search too hard to read or hear about the dire state of affairs in my home country. Because of the current situation in Venezuela, I am unable to even talk to my mother very often because the connection is terrible.
When we can talk, she tells me that she is barely eating, that the cost of living is so high that they are unable to support themselves. She tells me how our own family has been robbed, how they feel unsafe, and how they are living with the stress of not knowing if they can make it back home alive after going out. It breaks my heart to know that my mom is struggling just to find food. That is the main necessity of life! She cannot go out of her house without worrying that something bad could happen. This is not life for her. She deserves better.
My brother and my sister and their family are also in Venezuela and there are struggling with the lack of food. Venezuela had a few days without power last week, so I had no communication with them whatsoever. They are barely eating.
With my help, my mom (Iraida) was able to get her visitor visa to come to Canada for a few months. Now I need some help to pay for a flight ticket to get her here. With your help and support my mom will stay with me in Canada for a few months where she will be able to eat and be safe. I am hoping that the situation will be better in Venezuela before she must return. I will use the money to buy her a ticket to flight from Venezuela to Canada. I am hoping to get my mom here as soon as possible and preferably before April 15th, 2019.
In this present moment the most important people in my life are my friends and I am so grateful to have these amazing Canadian friends who support me and are helping me to bring my mom to safety in Canada. I dream of the day that I will get to hug her again. I am forever grateful.
