Help us reunite and bring Mischa home

We met at an international High School in Jakarta, Indonesia as teenagers and became close friends, keeping touch through letters and Facebook over the years.  There is nothing quite like realizing that one of your best friends is the love of your life and deciding that no matter the circumstances or distance, you are both willing to do whatever it takes to finally be able to make it work. Since 2018, Mischa was here on and off for a total of 7 months. Enough time for my two children to become attached and for us to establish ourselves as a family. We had no idea that things were about to drastically change. In March 2019 when the pandemic hit, presidential proclamations were put in place barring travel from Schengen countries into the U.S.

As a result of those travel bans and just after Mischa was approved for a K-1 (fiance) visa and had just sent in paperwork requesting an interview, all visa processing came to a halt. It has been over a year now since we have seen one another. I raise my children as a single mother with no support system around me while Mischa is essentially confined to his room in the Netherlands, forced to face the pandemic alone. This past year has been a test of our love and commitment but also a strain on us mentally, emotionally and financially.

The consulates meanwhile are processing and prioritizing spousal visa's and other visa's but fiance visa's are not being processed. In the year 2021 we are left having to prove that our level of love and commitment should not be based on a legal contract we were robbed of having the opportunity to complete in the first place. All we want is to re-unite SAFELY. We have stated to the government that we are willing to reunite safely (to quarentine before and after travel and with negative Covid-19 tests), but the government refuses to make exemptions for people in our situation.

Finally we have had enough and decided to borrow the funds necessary to join a lawsuit (Milligan vs. Pompeo) that is suing the government for not processing K-1 visas in countries affected by the travel bans. As a result of the original suit, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the Department of State from relying on the Coronavirus proclamations to suspend K-visa adjudications for those residing in the Schengen countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, China, Iran, and Brazil. Most of the previous plaintiffs have already obtained their visas and successfully reunited. Please help us re-unite too!

Cost to join the litigation was $2000, which we had to borrow.  We have made our goal amount slightly higher than the amount needed to join the lawsuit. As it stands now, even if we get the K1, Mischa would still have to travel to a third country and stay for at least 14 days prior to being able to enter the U.S. due to the current travel bans on countries in the Schengen area. We will also need to cover travel and moving expenses after a year in which we have lost so much on a canceled wedding and plain tickets booked prior to the pandemic and myself having to work part time during the pandemic to stay home with the children who were attending school online.

Please help us end this nightmare and re-unite once and for all. We know this pandemic is difficult for everyone. We just want to be able to endure it together...... we just want to be a family again. Thank you so much!
