My name is Heather, and I care for a large colony of community cats that has called an industrial park home for many years.

What started with simply feeding them has grown into Whiskerwood Village. With the help of some amazing people, we provide food, fresh water, shelters, TNR and medical care.

But there’s one thing I can’t give them where they are now:

A permanent home.

Recent changes have made it clear that their future there will never truly be secure. Our goal is to purchase land in the Charleston, South Carolina area and create Whiskerwood Sanctuary—a safe place these cats can finally call their own.

We’re starting to build their future

While we continue searching and raising money for land, my husband Alex and I are planning the first building for Whiskerwood’s future home.

We plan to convert a shipping container into a safe, insulated space designed specifically for the cats. The estimated cost is $25,000, and once we secure the right property, it can be transported there.

The cats can’t move into it yet—we still need the land. But we can start preparing for the day they can.

We’ll also be documenting and sharing the entire build. Our hope is that creating something people can actually see will bring more attention to Whiskerwood, help our story reach new people, and ultimately help us raise the funds needed for their permanent home.

Our current estimated costs include:

Purchasing land — $70,000+

Converted cat building — $25,000

Clearing & preparing the property — $4,000+

Fencing & secure outdoor areas — $10,000+

Water, electric & utilities — $5,000

Other necessary sanctuary setup expenses — $5,000

Estimated starting cost: $119,000+

These are preliminary estimates, and actual costs will depend on the property we are able to purchase and what infrastructure is already available.

The land is still our biggest goal. The cat building is the first piece we can begin working on while we continue searching for the right property.

We’ll be sharing the transformation from beginning to end so everyone who has supported Whiskerwood can watch the first piece of their future home come to life.
