Help Us Avoid Financial Ruin After Unexpected Job Loss & Visa Expiration

Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts as we face an incredibly difficult and urgent situation. Due to the recent layoffs at Meta, both my husband and I lost our jobs in the U.S. As visa holders on an L1 and L2 visa, this means we are legally required to leave the country within 60 days. Unfortunately, we have only a few weeks left before we must leave, and we are in a desperate race against time to sell our home in Texas before we go.

As non-U.S. citizens, we cannot transfer our visas, nor can we extend our stay. With no job offers and the countdown to our departure running out, we have had to use all our severance to cover moving costs back to Ireland, legal fees, and real estate expenses in an attempt to sell our home before we leave. However, the Texas housing market is not in our favor, and with such a short timeline, we are likely to sell far below market value and make a loss of over $80,000 below market value —leaving us with a substantial debt to our lender.

Despite cashing in our savings and assets, we are still facing a gap of over $20,000 between what we owe and the sale price of the house. If we cannot bridge this gap, we risk foreclosure and accruing debts in the U.S., which, as non-citizens, could lead to severe legal and financial consequences, including potential asset seizures in Ireland as this is the place where we are moving back to in Europe. We are doing everything possible to avoid this, but with no income and limited options, we are in an extremely vulnerable position. We are unable to keep up a house in the US while we move back to Europe, as we cannot serve the mortgage anymore in the US.

We never imagined having to ask for help like this, but we are out of options. I was laid off from tech over night without any warning and we lost both our visa with no help to return back to Europe. However the severance is just not enough to cover all outstanding costs as a European citizen as we have to move back and settle everything in time. We have never done anything wrong and always saved our money for difficult times, however we have to cash in our savings now and even liquidate stocks now to pay everything to make it to Europe and leave debt-free. If we had time to plan and would be employed for a few months, we would be able to pay the mortgage in the US and settle everything. However as everything happened so fast, we just do not have enough time and the visa gives you limitations in the US. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us as we work to close this financial gap and move forward without losing everything we have worked so hard for. Your generosity would help us cover the difference, finalize the sale of our home, and avoid long-term financial ruin.

If you are able to contribute, we would be incredibly grateful. If you cannot donate, sharing our story with others would also be a huge help. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any support you can provide during this overwhelming time.

We would never ask for help but this is the minimum amount we need to even get close to settling all debts, however it could be more, so we just hope to reach a solution and get some help. We are so grateful for everyone.
