Help the Shockley family

On October 7th, we had to suddenly call 911 because Patrick was having an asthma attack. The EMS paramedics said it was much worse than we thought, they were unsure if they could make it to the hospital. We got to Trident and when we were finally allowed back, he was somewhat stable. We spent a few hours there, he seemed better and they moved him to a room. They told us around 2 am we could leave, he was fine. Well HE WAS NOT FINE as barely an hour later we received the dreaded phone call that he had a massive heart attack or a blood clot burst, either way they revived him after 20 minutes and we should rush down there as he was very unstable. We got there and it took a while to get to see him but once we did, his heart stopped again. This time he was revived again, but placed in a coma and on life support. For 10 days he/we lived in limbo….one day a step forward, next day 2 steps back, his heart stopped again,  he was on massive amounts of narcotics, paralytics, oxygen wouldn’t work so they had to use heliox, it was a nightmare… we felt so helpless thru it all. Hospital policy states all patients on life support are intubated on day 10, not sure why but I felt this was a bad idea, so they decided to wait 12 days for him….as he had been able to be off the narcotics for 24 hours. They decided to try to remove his life support on day 11 and a MIRACLE happened, he woke up and gave them my number and said call my wife!!! The GOOD news, no lasting heart or organ damage….the BAD news the paralytic caused his muscles to be so weak he has to learn to do everything he took for granted 3 weeks ago again. He is very positive and we expect him to recover fully, its just going to be a long road. We could not afford the rehab they wanted him to go too, as  we have no money coming in. We still have our regular bills as well as hospital bills, dr bills, medicines, and his insurance premium (as it used to come out of his check). I hate for his progress to slow because hes worried about money or his health fail as we already couldn’t afford one of his meds. Patrick is the first to help others and the last to ask for help, but we don’t really know where else to turn. The bills have only multiplied as our world was turned upside down, and we must turn to our friends and family to help us get back to “normal”. Please keep Patrick and our family in your prayers and please help if you can, even small amounts mean a lot to us right now.
