Update 8-12-24:
The flood water has receded, and work has begun. The water level had reached 9 inches in Kyle and Stacie's home. The damaged drywall and belongings have all been removed. It's been a devasting process for the family.
From Kyle and Stacie:
It's hard to find the right words. We are terrified, shocked, sad, and broken but we are grateful for our safety and humbled by the support from family, friends, neighbors, and strangers.
A simple "thank you" will never seem like enough to repay the appreciation and love that we feel, but please know that we cherish each call, text, and consideration of assisting with our GoFundMe. It means the world to us.
I have set up this Go Fund Me in an effort to support my nephew, Kyle, and his family.
On Monday, August 5, 2024, their home in Lakewood Ranch, FL was devastated by Hurricane Debby. Sixteen inches of record-breaking rainfall and the release of dam water caused water to flow rapidly into their neighborhood flooding everyone’s homes within hours. As the water began to flow into their house, their 1-year-old son, Graham, was sleeping peacefully in his crib. Their four-year-old daughter, Audrey, sat patiently on her bed as the waters rose. A rescue team was able to evacuate them and their dog, Ellie. We are all forever grateful to the first responders that saved their family.
The flooding has broken their spirits, but they continue to stand tall through the devastation. They will be staying with family until their house is safe enough for return. The flooding has damaged the drywall and everything that was touching the ground including furniture, appliances, cabinetry, and food. Thankfully most of their clothing, toys, and keepsakes were spared. Home insurance does not cover damage caused by a flood. Their home is in a low flood risk area, and flood insurance is not standard. They and their neighbors are all facing the same financial loss without flood insurance.
Restoration of the water damage is estimated at $25,000. We are looking for support to help cover costs of restoration and replacement of their belongings. Any contribution to their loss is gratefully appreciated.
With sincere gratitude,
JoAnn McCarthy
