Help The Mystic Bookshop Rebuild

Donation protected

As my partner and I are sure many of you are aware, we were broken into and robbed on Saturday, March 20th.

We have spent the last year preparing ourselves for the street construction that is currently underway.  We have invested in our web site, built up our online catalogue, and fumbled around with trying to learn all these new ways of doing business in the digital age.  We've attempted to build up our store as a destination point for those who need a place to feel safe through our podcast and other plans that we've just been hanging onto, waiting for Covid and vaccines to be behind us, so that we can finally bring our Coven together again.

Unfortunately, due to the robbery, so much of that has been stolen from us.  The iPad we purchased for our counter sales...gone.  The computer we bought for running the business and running our podcast from...gone.  Our sense of security...gone.

We have been helped so much by our community over the last year...it has been our BIA, it has been our government, and it has been YOU coming to our store and being our friends and neighbours and buying things from us that has kept us going.  And even now, in these short few hours since being violated, our community has rallied around us, fed us, made us feel incredibly valued and so loved.  Because of this, we reluctantly reach out our hands for your assistance.  When we took up her gauntlet, we promised to do anything to keep the sweet smelling Mystic open and running through anything; that her 30 year reign on Dundas would not be lost under our watch.  But it's been a difficult year.

We dislike asking, but if you can donate anything at all to help us get through this difficult time, just when we thought we were on to something and so close to it taking off, we would be humbled and thankful in respect.

We have a very specific asking number there.  We have to pay off the iPad that was stolen, and of course to obtain another one to continue with what we've been building with our online presence.  We need a new computer to replace the one that was stolen to run the business and the podcast out of.  And while this was something not literally taken from us, we want to install an inexpensive security system to better protect the Old Shop in the future.

We've gone over our unfortunate situation together and in our minds for the last 24 hours, and we just don't know how we can replace what we've lost fast enough to serve our customers at the level we were.  It's hard for us to ask for this help.  If you're uncomfortable donating here, we understand.  In the end, follow our Facebook page to learn when we re-open soon, and when we do, we please ask that you make a "donation" by coming down to the store, saying hi, and shopping around for something you might need.  That would be the most rewarding donation of all.  Thank you so much for listening and for supporting not only us but the work of our artisans and service providers and the entire OEV, and being considerate to those who have harmed us.  Blessed Be!
