Help the Martin Family Through David's Cancer

Donazione protetta
There is no easy way to share this.
My dad has cancer.
And we need help.

My dad’s name is David. He’s a Union Electrician (LU 369), a gifted writer, a prolific reader, and hates tomatoes on his hamburgers. Most importantly, he’s a loving husband and an incredible father of 6 children.

My parents have been married 30 years and have raised 3 biological children into adulthood. Once we were grown, they became foster parents and started caring for infants and children that had been abused, neglected, and exposed to drugs in utero. They’re currently adopting a sibling set of 3 special needs babies, all under 3 years old who were all near-fatalities at birth.

My mother, Mary Caye, takes each baby to half a dozen different therapies and doctor’s appointments in Louisville and Cincinnati 5 days a week. My parents recently received the “foster parents of the year” award from the Commonwealth of Kentucky for their unwavering and steadfast commitment to caring for others. My mom will be the main caregiver for my dad during his treatment so he will obviously be in good hands.

My parents rally around, lift up, and care for anyone who needs it. Now, they need it. As our family learns to navigate this new reality, my adult siblings and I are doing everything we can to take some of the weight off the backs of my parents - doing the laundry, watching the babies, making meals, etc… But we are only three people. We need you, our community, too.

Radiation and chemotherapy begin this week and the cost is massive. My dad won’t be able to work while undergoing treatments. Any monetary support for the (already) staggering fees associated with testing, surgeries, treatments, months-worth of co-pays, supplies, and meals to keep everyone going (as if my mom has time to cook) would be a healing breath of relief.

We have a wishlist of comfort items that are not covered by insurance on Amazon as well as a meal train set up for locals that would like to support in that way. The only restriction is dairy, the babies do not process dairy and the diaper genie can only take so much. If you would like links to these please reach out to any one in the family.

Community support, mutual aid, and open arms for all are the core tenets of our family. Please know that any support you share with us during this time will allow our family to take a breath and a step towards health and healing.

Even if you cannot donate, please share with your circles!

We will get through this together.

Thank you so much,
The Martin Family
