PLEASE HELP BARRY TO WALK !

On Dec 2nd 2021 a dog crying in pain was found by the side the road near Brcko in Bosnia by Vera who has been running the DNV rescue shelter for the past 7 years. (The DNV shelter has 60+ dogs and 11 cats. They can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram DNVSAVEANIMALS ).

Vera took him immediately to the vets for pain control and assessment. We found that he had been run over and had 3 broken legs one of which was severely crushed.

After pleading for donations in order to save this poor badly injured boy Vera managed to pay for 2 major surgeries lasting 3 hours each. Also, with donations from the public he was named Barry now called Brave Barry.

In the weeks following he had 2 more surgeries . His legs have been incredibly put back together by our supervet Ivo (From the Argus vet practice in Domaljevac). Ivo also gave his time for free for some of these surgeries as he too had fallen in love with brave Barry.

Barry needed rest and Vera managed to get more help by donations for an orthopaedic bed, as well the pads needed for incontinence and a special diet.

Thinking Barry was on the mend everyone was happy until he started struggling and was rushed back to the vets. Barry needs to exercise but cannot support his weight with all the pins in his legs holding them together.

The vet recommends his best way to recover is by hydrotherapy or swimming to build up his muscles in his legs or he could never walk again. We have looked into the options for this in some detail. There is nowhere he can go for convalescence and therapy in Bosnia nor is he fit enough for the vaccinations and neutering to get a passport and travel.

After coming so far we don’t want to give up on dear Barry.

Therefore the only solution we can suggest is to build a solution for him at the shelter where he lives. This would mean setting up a pool or tank for him to swim in, together with a means of providing hot water and apparatus to get in and out. Additionally this pool would need a shelter of some kind to protect it and keep the area at least a little bit warmer. Can you help us do that ?

Come and join us to save not just Brave Barry but all the other poor dogs locally that suffer in the same way. Many get thrown on the streets in Bosnia, left to die in agony sometimes, some pregnant or with tiny babies that freeze to death. There is no RSPCA there. Nobody helps - only Angel rescuers like Vera and her family to pick up the strays and care for them. We welcome you all and would be so grateful if we could build a hydrotherapy unit in Vera’s shelter which could help Brave Barry and other poor dogs to recover from their tragic accidents on the roads.

We are still currently at the design stage to work out what our best solution is and how to implement it.

But we do need to start raising money as soon as possible, to enable us to concrete a particular area in the shelter (before the snow sets in) and draw up plans and start buying the building materials in order to set it up.

Therefore we desperately need your help. As soon as possible. We have set an overall budget of £5000 for the whole project but we will do everything we can to come in under that budget. We have seen a second hand pool with equipment but they are asking for £6500, and that would be without the shipping, plus the building of a shelter for the pool , plus connecting to water, electricity etc etc. So this is the difficulty we face. If we do raise more funds than we need for this, any excess funds will go to the refurbishment of the existing kennels in the shelter, including adding proper drainage.

Please please please help us. The sooner the better. In order to raise £5,000 over 3 months, we would need to collect £55 per day, every day. That is do-able, but of course it needs your help, and of course as quickly as possible. I personally would love to collect this in 2 months, or 1 month. Can you do that?
