Stribling Orchard has been a part of the Northern VA community for 201 years. Picking your apples at Stribling Orchard has been a happy tradition for many generations of families during the fall months.
However, 2020 has been a devastating year for Stribling Orchard. A late frost in the spring took out all the crop. That loss and the COVID pandemic led to the business decision to not open for this season.
Then just a few weeks ago in September, an electrical fire started in a barn and workshop. Thankfully none of the farm’s humans or animals were injured in the fire. Fauquier County Firefighters were amazing at putting it out and saving the sales building.
The loss from the fire is overwhelming - tools and machinery and lots of business equipment that help keep the farm running. Thankfully insurance will cover the losses there. And for that the Striblings are ever grateful.
However, the loss of income this season has set the orchard back in terms of prepping for the 2021 season. The frost was bad enough that it destroyed the 2020 apple season. However, the frost was NOT a orchard ending event. Apples will grow again in time for Fall 2021. But the trees need maintenance and care and that takes money.
Each season’s income helps support the running of the sales building, income for farm employees, and prepping the trees for the next season with spraying, cultivating, pruning, and other tasks.
2020 has left them without the income to manage preparations of the crop for next year. This GoFundMe has been set up to provide the Stribling family funds to prepare the trees for next season. This would be an amazing relief as they are juggling so much with the clean up and rebuilding from the fire. (Again all the fire costs are being taken care of by insurance. ) This campaign is designed to support the Orchard in preparation for Fall 2021 when they can look forward to a healthy crop and welcoming crowds back to pick apples and enjoy the beauty of their land.
