Help Support Rick Ussery's Recovery and Well-being

Hi, my name is Rick Ussery and my bad luck is the stuff of legends... After losing my best friend and wife unexpectedly in October 2023, I have had one catastrophe after another kicking my face into the dirt just in time to do it again the minute I start to pick myself up.

Some of these emergencies include having to move in a hurry, a heart attack, my father falling ill (congestive heart failure and kidney failure), him being in (mostly) and out of the hospital for the last 7 months with me acting as his (unpaid) primary caregiver. and so much more... I have been busting my butt to take care of my less fortunate friends, my cats, and my family members even if it came at the cost of my own well-being, and anyone who really knows me can truly attest to this.

I was doing my very best to achieve a much-needed promotion at work, and just as soon as I got close to the goal, I found the goal post being constantly moved further. It only made sense to me that I find a better job that would not treat me in this fashion, and I believed I did.... During the 2-week period between jobs, there was 1 week I would not be covered by any health insurance. Of course, that's when I fell deathly ill with walking pneumonia, and if that wasn't enough, it resulted in me having another minor cardiac event which forced me into an ER visit and subsequent admittance to the local hospital for 4 days, of which I was uninsured. Lots of medication, tests, and care later, I've been discharged home.

I have spent almost all of my savings covering my cost of living for the period I intended to be unemployed and obtaining the 9 medications I require. I am on a cardiac/diabetic diet now, 9 new meds plus my usual 2 blood pressure meds. I am on limited physical activity from my doctors until further notice and am still far too sick and weak to start my new job as scheduled (4 days from the time I'm writing this). I have reached out to HR at the new company pleading to delay my start date to preserve this opportunity with no good news as of yet...

I created this GoFundMe pleading for help to cover my medical expenses and my cost of living until I can begin to work again.

Funds received will be used in the following way...

1. Secure Cobra insurance coverage the bridge the gap between jobs insurance coverage to avoid outrageous hospital bills ($974)

2. Pay $2000 insurance deductible.

3. Catch up on past due bills from having used existing bill money (rent ($1200), car ($370), & to cover the cost of prescriptions ($1080) and healthy foods while home recovering.

4. Co-pays for a sleep study & CPAP machine to improve sleep quality and avoid potential OSA related cardiac issues.

5. Any additional funds will be used for any unforeseen medical expenses or to help support my new healthier lifestyle.
