Help Support Karah McKnight's Recovery
Thank you for being here! Karah and Trey McKnight are ASL interpreters in the Austin community. They have been part of this community for the last 20 years in a variety of roles—Karah as a private practice interpreter, and Trey as a staff interpreter, interpreter manager, and is now also an agency owner. They are phenomenal, caring people who are now facing a difficult road.
This week, Trey and Karah McKnight were on vacation in Colorado. While they were out riding, Karah was thrown from her horse. She was airlifted yesterday to Grand Junction, where it was discovered that one of her thoracic vertebrae (T12) was shattered beyond repair. She will be undergoing surgery today, during which they will fuse the vertebrae around it (T10-L2) and have her walking again, if all goes well. After that, she'll need to rehab in Colorado for a week or two before flying home.
Recovery will be long, at least 3-4 months, but they are optimistic and in good spirits. We all know that as private practice interpreters, any kind of medical/physical emergency has a quantifiable financial impact. This GoFundMe is to help with expenses they will face over the next few months—medical bills, housing for Trey until Karah is discharged, at-home rehab, transportation, lost wages, etc.
Thank you for considering helping out a valued friend and colleague during a difficult time. Please share this with as many people as you can. Thank you for your support!
