Skarleth is a 22-year-old who joined the the migrant caravan from Guatemala to seek political asylum in the US, with a contingent of 25 trans women. (tinyurl.com/transcaravan) After three scary months in ICE detention in New Mexico, Skarleth has been released to NYC.
Through a network of activists in New Mexico, she's connected with legal resources and a temporary place to stay in NYC. But the rest is up to her -- and also up to us, since ICE doesn't allow her to work until 5 months after requesting asylum. (Thanks, ICE.)
