Help Shira Recover After a Transphobic Attack
Doação protegida
Shira is a kind, hardworking woman who has faced more challenges than most—just for living as her true self as a trans woman in Turkey. Last week, on her way home from work, she was attacked near a bus stop. The man who approached her realized she was transgender and became aggressive. He followed her, shouted slurs, and stabbed her in the side. Only one teenager stopped to call for help.
Shira is now in the hospital, has undergone emergency surgery and will need multiple operations and long-term care to recover physically and emotionally.
Shira has no close family nearby and is not accepted by public organizations in Turkey because she is trans and a refugee. We’re raising funds to cover her medical bills and basic living expenses during this painful time. There is little else we can do as friends because we live far away in the Netherlands.
No one deserves to suffer for simply being who they are. Please, if you can, donate and share Shira’s story. Every small amount helps her take one step closer to healing.
Any donations above the required amount for the medical bills will go to healthcare workers who voluntarily came to her aid these first days to save her life.
Trans lives matter, always.
