Help Shana continue her art education!!

INTRO OF WHO SHANA IS?

I am a South African fine art student that in 2019, packed my belongings and a nifty student loan into a duffel bag and moved across the world to attend The Royal Academy of Art The Hague (KABK) - exceptionally dedicated and optimistic. Now, I have successfully completed my first year of fine art at KABK!!

I have grown such a massive amount during this year that it is sometimes overwhelming to comprehend. I have found a community that not only I belong to, but one that is teaching me how to be a better artist, a better human and a better friend. I have been able to experiment and explore my artistic identity and how I want to tell stories, to the fullest extent. The tools and skills that this academy has brought me are worth every single cent (and it is many cents, I tell you)

A LITTLE OBSTACLE

Unfortunately due to the high tuition fees for non-EU international students, I cannot continue my studies. The student loan I secured for my first year has run out. Both of my parents are artists living in South Africa, affected by the strict lockdown measures, they are unable to support me financially. I have reached out to the academy, but there are no scholarships/student finance/bursaries available for non-EU students that I am eligible for. The future of a prestigious education that I got a taste of started to look grim...

BUT WHAT I’VE BEEN DOING TO TACKLE THE OBSTACLE!!

In a valiant effort to continue my education, I am betting my money on many horses, as the saying goes.

I have found a volunteering job and another summer job at a restaurant, to save up money over the summer for my second year. However, it is a large sum of money that I need for my tuition… €7500 to be exact.

The other horse I am betting on is you. The community horse! If you are able to donate even the smallest amount and share my story to reach others, it would be so incredibly appreciated. I am confident that I can save up at least a little bit of money for living costs but I am turning to crowd-funding and my community for help to cover my tuition costs.

Receiving my education from KABK and drawing from the world and the people around me to communicate stories relevant and necessary to narrate today is an opportunity that I cannot give up without a lot of fight.
