Neon Boxing Academy Gene Keremete off to World Championships

Update – May 2025

We’re thrilled to share that after a huge week at the Australian World Titles Selection Event at the AIS in Canberra, Gene Keremete came home with the win in the 60–65kg welterweight division! He will now represent Australia at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England this September.

We’ve updated our fundraising goal to support Gene’s journey to the world stage. Travel, training, accommodation, training camps, and preparation costs are significant — and every donation gets us one step closer.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us so far. Let’s get behind Gene and Neon Boxing Academy as they prepare to take on the world!

We’re rallying support to help three NEON Boxers - Queensland’s top amateur boxers — Luke Morrison, Gene Keremete, and Kipa Keremete — get to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra from May 25 to June 1, where they’ll represent Queensland in the final selection event to qualify for the Australian National Team.

This is their chance to represent Australia at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England in September — but first, they need your help to get to Canberra.

Why We’re Raising $4,000

All three athletes have been selected to the QLD A-Division State Team, the highest level in amateur boxing. While Boxing Queensland coordinates travel and accommodation, the trip is only partially subsidised, and each athlete must contribute $700 to attend.

We’re aiming to raise $4,000 to ✅ Cover the $2,100 in travel and accommodation costs for Luke Morrison, Gene Keremete, and Kipa Keremete as well as ✅ Allocate any surplus funds toward the September trip to Liverpool, should they be selected to the Australian team following their performance at AIS.

What’s at Stake

This isn’t just another tournament — it’s the gateway to representing Australia on the world stage. The May camp in Canberra is the final step before selection to compete at the World Championships in Liverpool, one of the biggest events in international boxing.

Meet the Team

Luke Morrison – A powerful middleweight contender chasing his dream of becoming world number one. Luke’s discipline and drive have earned him this opportunity.

Gene Keremete – A rising talent with raw strength, focus, and a big heart. Gene has fought hard to earn his spot and is ready to represent.

Kipa Keremete – Fast, fearless, and fiercely determined. Kipa’s energy and commitment to the sport are an inspiration to his peers and community.

Coach Neon Leon – Head Coach at Neon Boxing Academy and now officially selected as a QLD State Coach for the upcoming AIS camp. While not funded by Boxing QLD, Neon is covering his own costs to travel and corner the athletes he’s guided every step of the way.
