Help Rural Haiti
Donation protected
The epicenter of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on Saturday August 14, 2021 was in the area our family is from. It’s a rural community by the name of Gros Marin, in the mountains north of Les Cayes on the southern penninsula of Haiti.
Prior to this event, our family would visit a couple times a year to provide humanitarian assistance. When back home in Homestead, FL we’d gather donations of clothing and food to send in boxes for distribution.
Just days after the earthquake we leapt into action and were bound for Haiti with tents, and tarps. The first reports back were of leveled homes and rockslides, but the devastation witnessed was worse than imagined.
Many of the homes were flattened. People are in shock. There is no shelter nor shade. Water quality is poor. Food is scarce.
In the short-term, to meet the basic needs, we are purchasing tents, and tarps here in the U.S. and medication and food when in Haiti. The plan is to return in October 2021, and every couple of months thereafter.
The long term recovery will be focused on reestablishing the food crops, and rebuilding a few of the homes.
We can only do as much as we’re provided with. Please help us help the people.
