Help Rebuild the Social Capoeira Training Ground
Donazione protetta
Eclipse Capoeira Atlanta is working in partnership with Gingando Pela Paz to help restore a training ground at their practice area in Goma, DRC. Every week upwards of 40 children train in Social Capoeira on a ramshackle basketball court that puts their physical safety at risk, as well as the well being of the many other youths who use the shared space.
You can read more about Gingando Pela Paz and the situation below.
The practice of Social Capoeira has been actively pursued in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2014, followed by hundreds of children and youths. At the Maison des Jeunes, a youth center run by the Catholic Church's Diocese in Goma, Gingando pela Paz has been training youth in Social Capoeira for more than a year, with the aim of offering a safe space where young people, girls and boys, can develop their skills, strengthen their competencies and share their experiences.
After only a few months, Social Capoeira has become a central activity in their lives. Especially for young girls, this approach has contributed to reducing traumas and counteracting cultural barriers that discriminate against women's integration in sports activities. It provides a space where youths can express themselves equally, freely and safely, regardless of their situation, age or gender.
It is precisely to reinforce the safety of this space, that we want to reconstruct the basketball court where the training is held. This is not just a physical site, but a shared space where transformation happens whenever activities related to Social Capoeira take place.
Be part of this transformation. Make your donation. Invite your friends. Come Gingando pela Paz with us!
Please take a moment to donate to this fundraiser. 100% of the proceeds go to Gingando Pela Paz to purchase equipment, order supplies, and hire skilled personnel to repair the extensive damage on the court. The stretch goal for this campaign is $4,000 so every dollar counts, big or small! We do it for the children on the other end of our dollars!
