Hello to All of the Friends, Acquaintances, and Relatives of Peggy Cole:
As most of you know by now, Peggy had a hemorrhagic stroke on New Year’s Day, 2021. According to available medical data, a hemorrhagic stroke occurs in only 13% of individuals who have had a stroke. The other form of strokes is an Ischemic Stroke and a Transient Ischemic Attack or a “mini-stroke. These strokes occur in 87% of stroke victims. Obviously, Hemorrhagic Stroke is more serious and occurs when a blood vessel bursts within the brain. Thanks to the wonderful care that Peggy received from the Woodway EMTs from firehouse number 2 and the professional medical staff at Memorial Hermann within the first onset of the stroke and in-patient hospital treatment, Peggy is steadily improving but still has a long way to go. She continues to experience cognitive issues in her speech and paralysis in her left arm and leg. The prognosis is for some type of recovery, but at this time we do not know to what degree. Peggy was moved from Memorial Hermann to a rehabilitation facility, Westchase Health, and Rehabilitation Center, on February 12, 2021. At Westchase, she is receiving specific speech, arm, and leg therapy. We are hoping to keep her there for the next 2-3 months or until her condition improves enough to bring her home.
What most of you do not know is that we had to let our health insurance lapse during 2020 due to the manner in which COVID impacted my business and she, therefore, has no insurance at this time. I have applied to Medicaid and several other programs to get long-term care in place as well have taken out a private policy for routine medical care such as doctor's visits, prescription drugs, and other associated treatments. If we are approved by Medicaid, Peggy will be able to remain at Westchase as long as needed. If not approved, we will have to bring her home prematurely.
We would ask that if there is any way you can contribute to Peggy’s Go Fund Me Account, please do so. The money will be spent on items such as Peggy’s hospital bill, long-term in-patient care, physical and mental therapy related to stroke recovery, wheelchair purchase, at-home care, and other associated related expenses. Her final bill from Memorial Hermann is in excess of $518,000 and the charges at Westchase are $8,600 per month, not including personal items. Westchase is doing us a favor by allowing her to stay pending approval from Medicaid.
I cannot thank each of you enough for being our friends and assure you that any contribution will be used to keep Peggy on track for recovery.
GOD BLESS each of you and thank you for your kind understanding.
