We are Ka ʻAumanu, a non-profit organization of parents dedicated to supporting Hawaiian language education, conservation, arts, and culture, especially for preschool-aged children in the ahupuaʻa of Mānoa. Our membership is made up of mākua whose keiki attend or attended Pūnana Leo o Mānoa, a Hawaiian immersion preschool.
After the Kona Low storms caused significant damage to our campus, the school was deemed unsafe, resulting in the loss of our license and the sudden closure of our school. Our keiki are now being displaced and separated to different sister sites. Many families are now facing longer transportation to further locations, and our community is working toward securing a new location so our keiki can resume school together. These very sudden changes are creating additional stress and uncertainty for our ʻohana and kumu.
We are raising funds to support the immediate and urgent needs of our school community during this time of displacement and transition, as we work to keep our keiki learning, growing, and connected to Hawaiian language and culture.
