Help our Family help Poppy
Donazione protetta
Yesterday seemed like a normal day. I woke up and let Poppy out, put food in her bowl and then let her back in. But she didn’t eat. This is a dog who can tell the time because when the clock strikes breakfast or dinner time (8am or 5pm) she is pawing the bag. So I got curious… when you have owned dogs your whole life (or have kids for that matter) you know poop tells a story. So I went out to the yard, I won’t tell you what I found but it put the antennae up. We went ahead and ran our errands but made them shorter and when we got back she had vomited 9 times.
I had to go to work around that time but Alan got home so he kept watch. Within an hour she had declined. I stepped off the floor at work and started calling vet after vet. No one could get us in until the next day and so I sat in our break area and cried. My instinct was that this couldn’t wait. Our only option was to take her to emergency vet and the 2 emergency vets in Lexington I hadn’t had a good experience with. So, I left work, called the clinic in Richmond, loaded Poppy up and drove the 40 minutes to the best emergency vet in central Kentucky. They said we were right to bring her in.
She was diagnosed with severe dehydration, pancreatitis, and HGE. Which on average is a 2-3 day stay. I cried for almost 3 hours sitting in that room… this dog who, after losing Lexi and Lyla, I was determined not to get too attached to, I was hanging on to her for dear life. She has become such an integral part of our family. When Rohne was sick for nearly two weeks recently she never left his side. She is our family.
This is not something we can afford but we certainly weren’t going to lose Poppy, so I swiped a deposit of $3000 with the possibility of it being over $3500. I am not one to ask for help, any of you that get this far know this about me, but our family already feels like were drowning, so any little bit will be helpful!
