Help Our 8 Mos Old Son
Our Cranio Warrior

When Preston was 2 months old we noticed something fairly unusual with our son's head shape. We discuss our concerns with the Pediatrician and PA insisting a referral for cranial helmet therapy only to here, "let's wait and see after 6 months. It should fix itself Okay, Mom?" Over the course of 6 months, we continued to press the concern bc there was no improvement. At 6.5 months the PA recognized our concern and ordered a referral to seek helmet therapy to our liking.
Our first instinct was to seek a specialist in Lubbock since it's closer to home. I began calling Lubbock speciality clinics only to get roadblocks. Looking at it now, it was a God thing. Roadblock led us to schedule an appointment at Cook Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth. Joe and I were excited to make headway and ready to discuss getting a helmet for Preston.
One and half month of waiting for our appointment, we arrive at Cook Children's Dodson Specialty Center in Ft. Worth. The physician diagnosis Preston with metopic Craniosynostosis, . plagiocephaly and torticollis. His soft spot" on his head and some plates in his skull closed too soon in utero. There is no trace of family genetic condition, cause from the type of delivery. Lucky, the physician explained surgery is necessary to relieve pressure on his brain and allow it to grow normally so that he does not develop delays, disabilities, or even die as a result of the intracranial pressure. We are so lucky we didn't delay Preston's concern further!

On June 21st, Preston will undergo a 5+hour operation called cranial vault remodeling. Its an open surgery completed by neurosurgeon, physician/ plastic surgeon and support staff. The team will make an incision from ear to ear and remove the skull plates from his head. The surgeon will remodel, insert dissolvable plates and screws After the 5+ hour operation he will overnight in PICU and regular hospital bed with 24 hour care for one week. Joe and I are taking 2 weeks off and staying in hospital and rental property. We will be paying a insurance out of pocket for the >$50K procedure and can use any assistance with travel/food expenses, mounting of medical bills for Preston's treatment. If you cannot donate, please share or pray. Every bit goes a long way.
