Help Oscar Reunite with his Family
Donation protected
We are raising funds to support my uncle Oscar, who was taken by ICE, and his family. My uncle is the main income earner in the household, so his absence inevitably creates a financial burden for his family. The funds raised will help cover extensive legal fees for his fight against deportation, and in helping his family meet their basic needs. We thank you in advance for supporting my uncle.
Learn his story below:
On the morning of June 5th, my uncle's car was blocked off by an unmarked vehicle from which six people got out, then surrounding his car. They demanded to see his ID, but before he could reach it, they identified themselves as ICE agents and forcefully pulled him out of the car. Without reviewing his ID and with no warrant in sight, he was placed into the unmarked vehicle and taken away. His wife, who was on the driver’s seat, was paralyzed in fear and filled with tears.
My uncle Oscar has lived in Connecticut for roughly 20 years. Anyone who has had the privilege to meet him can attest to the type of person he is. He views the world with a very positive attitude and is welcoming of anyone and everyone. He’s the person that would rather go hungry to make sure you eat; to sleep on the floor to make sure you’re comfortable. At the barbeque, you can expect him to be next to the grill cooking the meat and serving it. At the beach, he brings the watermelon, and when you go fishing with him, he makes sure you know how to use the fishing gear so you have the best chances of catching one. Or when your car breaks down on the road, no matter what time or day, he’s the one you can always count on for help. He has spent half of his life in this country, working tirelessly 6 days a week until late hours of the day to provide for his family.
My uncle’s absence is most felt by his family, who waits for him at home. A 17 year old boy and a 9 year old girl were met with possibly one of the worst news they could get. “A papi se lo llevó ICE” (Daddy was taken by ICE). Words that no child should ever have to hear and a sight that no one should have to witness. His wife, whose list of worries continues to grow, has been left alone to deal with the consequences of this cruel administration. It is uncertain how long my uncle will be gone for, which is why his family is in need of our support. We are requesting the community, family, friends, and anyone who might have the ability to consider donating. This will help my uncle in covering legal fees and his family to have enough to make rent, cover bills, and groceries.
It is with urgency that we turn to the community for help during these challenging times. We will also be accepting donations through Zelle/Venmo if you so wish to do so. Although this is a fight no one ever should have to face, we are dedicated to do everything within our power to bring him back home and be reunited with his family.
