Lieve vrienden, familie en gulle gevers,

Wij hebben jullie hulp nodig voor onze lieve Glenn Steve Biltoo. Glenn is 65 jaar , geboren in Suriname en woont op dit moment op Sint Maarten. Hij kreeg vorig jaar een hartverscheurende diagnose; er was een hersentumor geconstateerd. Na dat bericht veranderde alles voor Glenn en de familie.

In november 2024 moest Glenn noodgedwongen naar Colombia afreizen voor zijn risicovolle hersenoperatie. Omdat de operatie niet uitgevoerd kon worden op Sint maarten. De situatie maakt het voor de familie extra moeilijk om hem bij te staan, zowel in de kosten als in de zorg omdat hij aan de andere kant van de wereld woont. Het is ons als familie, tot nu toe gelukt om regelmatig af te reizen naar Sint Maarten en Colombia om hem bij te staan. Alleen merken we, door alle medische complicaties en de zorgkosten, dat we het financieel niet meer redden. We hebben jullie hulp nodig.

We zijn ongelooflijk dankbaar dat de operatie zijn leven heeft gered en we zien ook dat Glenn de wil heeft om aan zijn herstel te werken. Ondanks de pijn en de heftige veranderingen in zijn leven, is er toch soms een glimlach op z’n gezicht af te lezen. En dat geeft ons ook de kracht om hem niet op te geven.

Doordat het zo’n zware operatie was heeft het ook andere complicaties met zich meegebracht. Na zijn ingreep volgden: hersenbloedingen, infecties en epileptische aanvallen. Hij raakte deels verlamd en verloor grotendeels de controle over zijn lichaam. Ook heeft hij intensieve revalidatie nodig om nog enigszins te functioneren.

Glenn revalideert momenteel in de zorginstelling: Wit Gele Kruis op Sint Maarten. Hij wordt dagelijks behandeld door een team van fysiotherapeuten, ergotherapeuten, logopedisten en psychologen. Toch blijft de schade immens groot. Fysiek en emotioneel. Glenn heeft zware spasticiteit, slechte rompcontrole en grote moeite met zijn spraak en communiceren. Zijn prikkelbaarheid en verlies van tijdsbesef maken de zorg extra zwaar. Hij is dag en nacht afhankelijk van hulp.

De schade na zo’n operatie verandert het leven van een mens. Glenn kan niet meer zelfstandig wonen en functioneren wat heel erg verdrietig is en wat de situatie nog moeilijker maakt voor hem. En de medische zorg op Sint maarten is beperkt. Hij is nu feitelijk een patiënt geworden die 24 uur afhankelijk is geworden van zorg en aangepaste voorzieningen nodig heeft.

Help ons om Glenn toch een kans te bieden om in een veilige omgeving te herstellen en nog enigszins kwaliteit van leven te ervaren. Wij hebben dringend geld nodig voor:

1. De vliegreis van Sint Maarten naar Nederland.

2. De aanpassingen die wij binnenshuis moeten doen zodat we Glenn tijdelijk kunnen opvangen, totdat er een plekje vrijkomt in een revalidatiecentrum in Nederland. De aanpassingen die wij binnen het huis moeten doen bestaan uit:

- Een aangepast hoog – laag bed met antidecubitusmatras.

- Een speciale rolstoel met hoofdsteun en kantelfunctie.

- Een tillift of transferhulpmiddel.

- Aangepaste douchemogelijkheden.

- Wijkverpleging voor dagelijkse zorg.

- Fysiotherapie aan huis.

- Een verzorger om hem te ondersteunen in zijn dagelijks functioneren.

Iedere donatie hoe klein ook, telt en maakt een wereld van verschil voor Glenn en de familie. Wij hopen dat jullie ons helpen om, ondanks alle ernstige complicaties en verdrietige veranderingen in zijn leven, het toch ietsjes draaglijker te maken voor Glenn. En dat de veilige, warme en liefdevolle omgeving die we met z’n allen creëren, zijn herstel naar een beter leven bevordert.

We need your help for our dear Glenn Steven Biltoo.

Glenn is 65 years old, born in Suriname and at the moment lives in St. Maarten.

Last year he was given the heartbreaking news that he had a brain tumor. After this diagnosis everything changed for Glenn and the family.

In November 2024 Glenn had to travel to Colombia for the risky brain operation because this operation could not be carried out in St. Maarten. This created a very difficult situation for the family not only to be able to be at his side to support him but also the costs and care needed as he was on the other side of the world.

We as his family have been lucky up until now to be able to travel back and forth between St. Maarten and Colombia to give him all the support we could but because of all the medical complications and care costs we are now unable to continue. We urgently need your help.

We re incredibly grateful that the operation saved his life and we see that Glenn has the will to work on his recovery. Despite all the pain and major changed this has made to his life we sometimes see a smile on his face and that gives is the encouragement not to give up on him.

Because of the intensity of the operation it brought other complications with it. After the operation he had a brain bleed, infections and epileptic fits. He was partially paralyzed and lost control over his body. He needed intensive rehabilitation just to be able to function.

Glenn is recuperating at this moment in a care facility: the White/Yellow Cross in St. Maarten. He is treated daily by Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech therapists and Psychologists.

Glenn’s frustration and not being able to understand the loss of time makes his care extra hard. The damage done is immense both physically and emotionally and such an operation changes the life of someone forever.

Glenn can no longer live on his own which is very sad and makes this all the more difficult for him He is dependent on care both day and night.

He will; need extensive rehabilitation to regain some of his functions back. The medical facilities on St. Maarten are limited and because he has become a patient who needs round the clock care we need to bring Glenn back to The Netherlands to give him the chance to recuperate and rehabilitate.

Please help us give Glenn the chance to recover in safe surroundings and have some quality of life back.

We urgently need your help by way of donations for the following:

1. The flight from St. Maarten to the Netherlands

2. The internal alterations to our house that will need to be done so we can temporarily look after Glenn until a place becomes available in a rehabilitation facility

3. Medical needs such as:

i. Special Wheelchair with headrest and tilting capabilities

ii. A bed with high and low functions with an antidecubitus mattress (with controlled air flow)

iii. A hoist for lifting and transferring him where needed

iv. A special needs shower

v. Physiotherapy at home

vi. Carer/Nurse to aid him with his daily routines
