Help Nikki During Brain Surgery

Donation protected
Hello everyone! On July 4th, my best friend and running buddy Nikki Stickley set out on her first training run for the Richmond Half Marathon and experienced what she thought was a migraine. Fast forward to a few days later, and she’s in the ER learning that not only does she have an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in her brain, but it’s hemorrhaged. The good news is that she is physically and neurologically OKAY, but she is unable to work as she awaits a series of brain surgeries over the next year. Her first procedure is on September 1, so give us all the good vibes/rub your crystals/pray, etc.

If you know Nikki, you know that she will literally give you the shirt off her back (ok well that one time I lost my shirt running she didn’t… but that’s another story). An example of this is in late 2020, Nikki and I decided to train for a half marathon. I had never successfully done so and Nikki had never ran over a mile. At the time, races were not happening in person any time soon, so in our planning of how we were going to stay motivated, she suggested we do a fundraiser for a local food bank. In the end we finished a 13.1 miles and raised over 1k for the food bank. It was awesome. Here is proof:

Ok so now this is where you come in- Since my best bud can’t work, I thought this would be a great opportunity to do something good for someone who is so great. I am running the Richmond Half Marathon on November 12. You can support me in either (or both) of the following ways:
  • Give Nikki some $$$$: while her employer (Mr. Bezos) is letting her keep her insurance while she undergoes these surgeries, she will not be able to work. Her husband Matt is continuing to work full time, but they could use our help.
  • Join #teamNikki!!: My friend is literally crazy like myself and is counting down the days until she can run again. In her honor, if you would like to join my Richmond Half Marathon team, let me know! Whether it’s your first or 50th half, it would boost her spirits to have you on our team! I joked with her that we’re going to make shirts with her face on them….https://www.richmondmarathon.org

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. Your support (in whichever way you choose) means the world. All jokes aside (we’re trying to stay positive here), this is an amazing person that is going through something none of us can imagine. Let’s all rally around our friend during this crazy time. #teamNikki!! #evictJim!!!
