This fundraiser is in support of my son, Nathaniel “Butch” Rabe, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. This cancer is exceedingly rare and aggressive, one of the deadliest cancers in the world today.

For nearly 20 years, Nate has specialized in enhancing and customizing high-performance European cars. The pandemic was brutal on his business, so he sought to make a career change. As he was transitioning to a promising, new career, Nate fell ill and was diagnosed with this exceedingly rare and deadly cancer.

His best option for treatment is with Memorial Sloane Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center in New York City, a global leader in rare and advanced esophageal cancers.

As Nate underwent what was to be a two-hour procedure at MSK to insert a Medi port for chemotherapy and conduct a fourth endoscopy to collect additional biopsies of the tumor area, this incredible surgeon performed a Laparoscopy to look at the esophagus from the outside and abdominal cavity, uncovering sepsis; an undiagnosed, life-threatening, abdominal infection that nearly ended his life. This two (2) hour outpatient procedure turned into an 8-day hospital stay! Not one of his many blood tests, Endoscopies, Ultra Endoscopies, MRIs, CT scans, PET Scans, or X-Rays showed any abdominal issues. Nate was told he could have died in an hour or two from sepsis! His surgeon coordinated a team of four (4) departments prioritizing care for this complex case!

This picture shows a healthy, happy 41-year-old Nate prior to his illness.

A gifted craftsman and lover of the environment, Nate is also a great Dad with a cool personality! He has always enjoyed the outdoors. An avid motorcycle rider and hiker, Nate now shares these enjoyable experiences with his son.

Nate has a year or more of challenging, expensive, lengthy, and intense medical treatment, including extensive chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunology, and multiple surgeries.

His personal and medical expenses are mounting because he is unable to work due to the seriousness of his condition. Nate is not eligible for the usual support programs such as FMLA or disability.

Thank you to those of you who have continued to send your positive thoughts and prayers throughout his challenges. Together we can help Nate recover his strength and ease his financial concerns!

If you are able and so moved, please help Nate with his medical as well as his medical-related personal and business expenses. A personal gift of any size would be greatly appreciated.

With the utmost love and gratitude from a mother, grandmother, colleague, and friend!
