My nephew is an eighth-grade student who has been dealing with a very stressful and discouraging situation that began when he was only in the sixth grade. After moving to a new state and starting at a new school, he was already facing the challenges of adjusting to a completely different environment and transitioning from elementary to junior high.

One day in class, another student accidentally knocked his Chromebook off his desk. The teacher witnessed the incident and simply told the other student to pick it up. At the time, my nephew did not understand how the Chromebook responsibility system worked at the school. Later, he told his mom what happened, and she reported the situation to the assistant principal so it would be documented. When the school year ended, there were no charges on his account, so everyone believed the matter had been handled.

However, at the start of seventh grade, my sister noticed a charge for the Chromebook on his school account. She spoke with the assistant principal again and was told that the charge would be removed and that my nephew would not be held responsible. After that conversation, the charge disappeared, so once again we believed the issue had been resolved. Unfortunately, when eighth grade began, the same charge suddenly appeared again on his school account.

This has been especially difficult for my sister, who is a single mother raising two children. She moved to a new state hoping to provide a better life and opportunities for them. On top of that, she recently experienced a health scare that prevented her from working for some time, creating even more financial strain.

Recently, the eighth-grade students were given the opportunity to participate in a popcorn fundraiser. My nephew was excited because he believed half of what he sold would go toward his senior trip and help pay down the Chromebook balance that still had not been resolved. At this point, we are simply trying to lift this burden from his shoulders. My nephew is a kind, hardworking young man who did everything he could to handle this situation the right way. We are asking for any support that could help cover the Chromebook balance and allow him the opportunity to participate in the experiences every student deserves, including his senior trip. Any help, support, or even sharing his story would mean the world to him and our family. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for showing compassion to a young student who truly deserves a chance to move forward from this situation.
