Help Mike & His Long Recovery After Tragic Accident
Donation protected
As many of you know our brother Mikey was in a tragic accident. He was hit by a train in downtown Calgary on Nov 7th at 6:30 pm. Mikey does not have any memory of the accident and the police do not know how it happened. He suffered multiple injuries and will be in recovery for a substantial amount of time in the months ahead as he will be needing therapy and rehabilitation. He suffered multiple broken bones such as his head and face were fractured, his ribs were crushed, his shoulders and clavicles were broken, he had reconstructive surgery on his face and lost his teeth, his shoulders and ribs were broken and he lost part of his leg. These are just a few injuries he sustained.
He has had 5 surgeries so far such as his facial reconstructive surgery, plates on his ribs to help him breathe, surgery on his heart, to amputate his leg and to drain internal bleeding. He may be stable now but he has had issues with blood clots and internal bleeding, his kidneys had stopped working. He is susceptible to more blood clots, infections and pneumonia. He is currently in ICU in a rehabilitation/therapy unit working on breathing on his own in order to remove his trach. His next step is to get into the trauma unit to work on occupational therapy and physio therapy. Then he will be working on prosthetic therapy after that.
We as his family are thinking of his current and future needs. He currently doesn't have any clothing and will need basic necessities soon. Since he is non verbal right now communication is hard and he gets very frustrated we were hoping to get him something for communication purposes such as a tablet so he can communicate and stay in touch with family and friends. He has been going through some difficult times and gets very depressed we try to keep his spirits up. We would like to prepare for when he's released to help him obtain housing and start up needs. We are thinking about his future such as housing needs and medical devices that may not be covered, any little bit would help and would be greatly appreciated.
I'd like to thank all of our family and friends here in London who have reached out to send their well wishes and concerns. Our family appreciates you all during this difficult and stressful time.
