Mel's Emergency Housing & School Expenses

Friends, I am in need of a mutual aid request again to assist in keeping me housed and cover expenses until I receive financial aid in mid-August.

With the donations I’ve already received I’ve been able to get my cat antibiotics In lieu of getting her back to vet (which is simply too expensive for now) for her bowel obstruction and infection and she is now stable. I can’t thank you all enough! I've also been able to cover my personal Rx for July and August!

I am asking for support to bridge this 3 week gap until I receive my financial aid refund or secure income.

My immediate expenses are my power bill, keeping my phone in service, and train fare/travel expenses to and from school the week of August 11-17th.

As many of you may already know, I had to seek support late last year for the same reason as I’ve been unemployed for almost 3 years, having been laid off 3 times, with the exception of a four month stint teaching.

I’ve applied to over 3700 jobs here in the Bay, remotely, and back home in Orlando, having received only 3 offers in that time (1 being fraudulent).

My mother has helped me all that she can over the last 3 years and without her I don’t know where I’d be. She has kept me above water literally and emotionally.

I even planned to move back to Orlando in April but because I couldn’t find work there, couldn’t find housing where the difference in rent wasn’t negligible, and couldn’t afford the move itself, I decided to stay with a combination of help from my mother and financial aid.

I can’t tell you how defeating it is to not even be able to afford to “fail.”

I have a friend helping to manage and share the GoFundMe as I haven’t had internet since January of 2023 and rely on hotspots from the library when available. So Please know I may not see who is donating or be able to reply with a thank you in real time but will do so as soon as is possible.

There are 600k unhoused people in this country and the Supreme Court just made being unhoused illegal. Too many folks have no support system and it’s unacceptable.

I am extremely grateful for any support even if it means sharing the campaign. All funds will be paid back/forward as soon as I'm on solid ground.
