Melina Meletakos Memorial Fundraiser

Last week, our friend Melina Meletakos, discovered that she has a massive tumor growing on her brain. The tumor is a meningioma and is operable and non-cancerous. However, it is pushing down on her brain, causing swelling and it will need to be taken out as soon as the right course of action can be decided.
This GoFundMe has been created for friends and extended friends of Melina to be able to donate something monetary to help her with the costs of her surgery and medical care.
Melina is currently home in South Africa, where she finds herself without medical aid to help her with upcoming medical expenses. The cost of the surgery and care are unknown at the time, so I can only guess at how much it will all cost for her. The initial MRI that found the tumor cost as much as a months salary.
The discovery of the tumor and the medical decisions that followed happened (and are happening) quickly and must be so stressful. Since the surgery will hopefully happen within the next week or two, it will need to be paid for quite soon.

Melina is the kindest, most gentle person who greatly deserves the help in which I am asking.
Melina has spent much of her adult life abroad, working in Japan for years, and extensively traveling the world. I first met Melina when we were staying in an AirBnB in Salvador, Brazil. The adventurous girl that she is, she was on a solo South America tour. Melina fell in love with Brazil, and a year after our meeting, she moved to Rio de Janeiro to volunteer her time and skills at EduMais, an NGO providing educational programs to severely underprivileged children growing up in the Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo favelas. Melina created the curriculum that the English classes at EduMais used this past year. She dedicated much of her time in Brazil writing a new curriculum and teaching students at EduMais, even time when she could have been sitting on the beach drinking caipirinhas with me!
So again, please, for someone who is a warm and sincere friend to all, and for someone who has given our community, and others around the world so much, donate what you can to help Melina pay for her brain surgery!
