Help Me Clean Up a Life-Threatening Fiberglass Contamination

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Pansée and I’m reaching out for urgent help to cover a serious, unexpected emergency. Before I get into it, this is truly my last resort. I’ve tried all other options but none of them worked out. My mattress was manufactured with fiberglass, and over time, the material started leaking microscopic fibers into my bedroom and spread around my home. These fibers have contaminated everything in my room including my clothes, floor, anything porous, and even contaminated the washer and dryer when attempting to get rid of the fiberglass in some items. I’m facing an immediate health risk, and I need to clean and replace many items in my home, which is costing over $5,000.

What is Fiberglass, and Why is it Dangerous?
Fiberglass is a common material used in certain mattresses as a fire retardant. While it may seem harmless, when fiberglass fibers break free or leak from their casing, they become airborne and can be inhaled or come into contact with the skin. These tiny fibers can cause severe respiratory issues, skin irritation, and eye damage. Ingesting or inhaling fiberglass particles can lead to long-term lung damage, asthma, or even cancer in extreme cases. That’s why this situation is so hazardous and classified as a biohazard.

How Did This Happen?
Unfortunately, my mattress was part of a batch where fiberglass was improperly used as a fire barrier. It’s illegal for mattresses to contain hazardous materials like this without proper protection, yet it still happens in certain cases. The fiberglass started leaking over time, and when I washed my sheets, the contaminated laundry spread these toxic particles throughout my home, including the laundry machines, which are now unsafe to use. My bedroom itself is a hazardous zone.

Why Is Cleaning So Expensive?
I was shocked at how this costs so much, but the contamination is so pervasive that it’s not just a simple cleaning issue; every inch of my room, as well as my laundry equipment, needs professional decontamination. The specialized cleaning services that are trained to safely remove fiberglass fibers require expensive equipment, labor, and protective measures. These costs are adding up to over $5,000, which is beyond my current financial ability. The situation is dire, and I can’t afford to cover these costs without your help. I’m a recent graduate and the money I earn from work barely covers my bills and groceries.

This is a life-threatening situation, and without proper cleaning and decontamination, I risk serious health issues, not to mention the damage to my home and personal belongings. Any contribution you can make will go directly toward cleaning the contaminated areas, replacing damaged items, and ensuring that my living space is safe again.

Thank you for reading, and for any help you can provide, whether it’s through a donation or by sharing this campaign with others. I truly appreciate your support during this incredibly difficult time.
