My Name is Masoud, and This Is My Story From Gaza

Since October 7th, 2023, my life — and the lives of my family — have completely changed forever.

We lost our home.

We lost our safety.

We lost the simple right to live in peace.

My name is Masoud, and I am the eldest son in a family of 10 from Gaza. When the war began, we were forced to flee our home — the place we built with years of love, hard work, and sacrifice. Today, it has become nothing but rubble.

My father was injured during the early days of the war and urgently needs medical care. But hospitals in Gaza are overwhelmed, damaged, and lacking even the most basic supplies. Since then, I have become responsible for my entire family.

I am only a young man, but I carry the weight of ten lives on my shoulders every single day.

I have two younger brothers, Mohammad and Ahmad. They should be playing, studying, and dreaming about their future. Instead, they are learning how to survive without food, safety, or a home.

I also have three sisters who once dreamed of becoming teachers, doctors, and artists. Now, they have lost their schools, their books, and most painfully, their sense of hope.

Every day has become a struggle for survival.

We wake up not knowing if we will find food, clean water, medicine, or even a safe place to sleep. Prices are unimaginably high, and basic necessities are almost impossible to find. Humanitarian aid is limited, and many families are suffering beyond words.

The world may see numbers in the news, but we are human beings — with dreams, fears, memories, and families, just like everyone else.

We are not asking for luxury.

We are simply asking for a chance to survive and rebuild our lives.
