My name is Maria Julieta Romero, I was born and raised in Colombia, South America. Three years ago, my life completely changed when my family and I left our beloved country in a rush because we were in danger. Upon leaving the country, we carried ten backpacks and treasured memories to start a new life in the United States with its new diverse culture, language, and customs.

As a first-gen student, I had to find many ways to be successful during high school without knowing the language, and the educational system. Throughout my high school years, I discovered many resources that helped me succeed. This led me to earn a full-tuition scholarship at The Catholic University of America, where I plan to double major in Architecture and Civil Engineering.

Today, I'm raising funds because, despite my family's effort to save up money, we realized that with the scholarship we would not be able to afford housing, food, and all the other college expenses. Going to a university it's important for me because it will give me the resources to fulfill my career aspirations of funding a non-profit organization that support immigrants in the United States.

Even the slightest amount of money would help me to achieve my dreams.

Mi nombre es María Julieta Romero, nací y crecí en Colombia, Sudamérica. Hace tres años, mi vida cambió por completo cuando mi familia y yo abandonamos apresuradamente nuestro querido país porque estábamos en peligro. Al salir del país, cargamos diez mochilas y recuerdos atesorados para comenzar una nueva vida en los Estados Unidos con una nueva cultura, idioma y costumbres diversas.

Como estudiante de primera generación, tuve que encontrar muchas maneras de tener éxito durante la escuela secundaria sin conocer el idioma ni el sistema educativo. A lo largo de mis años de escuela secundaria, descubrí muchos recursos que me ayudaron a tener éxito. Esto me llevó a obtener una beca de matrícula completa en la Universidad Católica de América, donde planeo realizar una doble especialización en Arquitectura e Ingeniería Civil.

Hoy estoy recaudando fondos porque, a pesar del esfuerzo de mi familia por ahorrar dinero, nos dimos cuenta que con la beca no podríamos pagar la vivienda, la comida y todos los demás gastos universitarios. Ir a una universidad es importante para mí porque me dará los recursos para cumplir mis aspiraciones profesionales de financiar una organización sin fines de lucro que apoya a los inmigrantes en los Estados Unidos.

Incluso la más mínima cantidad de dinero me ayudaría a lograr mis sueños.
