Help Leon Fight
Donazione protetta
It is with a heavy heart and unbearable grief that I set up this Go-Fund-Me account for my cousin, Leon Johnson who is in a coma. Leon needs to be transferred to a trauma center where he can get the proper care. He is my aunt’s 35 year old first born and only son, as well as his father’s only child and father to their only grand-daughter. Leon has a heart of gold and would give anyone the shirt off his back. If Leon is not spending time with his daughter, he is cooking on the grill for his friends or being the caregiver for his 93 year old grandmother, he is busy helping someone. Leon is a man of all trades who is an independent electrician with auto mechanic and handyman skills. If you need anything repaired or any work done, you can always depend on Leon. His friends jokingly call him the “Mayor”, because of his friendly personality and the fact that he seems to know everyone in the community.
On October 20, 2016 Leon was sitting in the yard listening to his buddy play the keyboard. Leon told his friend that it was getting late and he had to go to work the next day, but the music lover that Leon is, he asked his friend to play one more song before they called it a night. While playing a song, his friend noticed that he had fallen asleep. When he attempted to wake him, he discovered that Leon wasn’t breathing and immediately started CPR. When the ambulance arrived, Leon had a slight pulse and still was not breathing. When the family arrived at the emergency room, no one could have prepared them for the devastating news of Leon being unresponsive and in a coma. He is still in critical condition and has yet to regain consciousness, although his organs and vitals are good. He would not be able to survive without the help of a respirator. Several CT-scans have shown minimal brain activity and the most current shows some swelling on the brain.

His parents who are at the hospital everyday are exhausted and heartbroken to see Leon in this condition for the second time, laying in the hospital on a respirator with tubes all over his body, fighting for his life. When Leon came into the world he was the surviving identical twin weighing only 1 pound 6 ounces at birth. He was in critical condition, hooked up to a respirator with tubes all over his body, fighting for his life. It’s very disturbing for his parents to relive this all over again and very disturbing that the doctor’s cannot give his mother and father a prognosis as to what caused Leon to be in this state. Leon did not have a heart attack, stroke, seizure, aneurism, blood clot, disease, infection, and it was not drug or alcohol related. The family is being told that his condition is a total mystery and we just have to wait for him to wake up. We are not giving up on Leon!
Leon desperately needs to be transferred to a trauma hospital like Jersey Shore University Medical Center or Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he will have access to more resources and get a more aggressive approach to his condition. The fact that Leon is an independent electrician with minimal insurance has been a barrier to having him transferred to a trauma hospital. The transfer would not be covered by insurance and would be an out-of-pocket expense.
WITH THIS FINANCIAL UNCERTAINTY THAT LIES AHEAD WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR DONATION THROUGH THIS DIFFICULT TIME. ANY DONATION COLLECTED WILL GO TO HELP PAY FOR HIS TRANSPORTATION. ANY AMOUNT ANYONE CAN GIVE WOULD HELP A GREAT DEAL AND WILL TRULY BE APPRECIATED.
IN THIS SCARY JOURNEY, PLEASE KEEP LEON AND OUR FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO DONATE FINANCIALLY, PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO HELP US GET LEON’S STORY OUT. WE ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THE VISITORS, SUPPORT, WELL WISHES, THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS WE HAVE RECEIVED AND WE ASK TO PLEASE KEEP IT COMING.
