Our dear friend and colleague Kymm recently received a heartbreaking diagnosis: scans have revealed multiple brain tumours requiring urgent and highly specialised surgery. Sadly, no neurosurgeons in Australia are trained to perform this particular procedure — leaving her family with no choice but to seek treatment overseas.

The only surgeon with extensive experience in treating Kymm’s condition is renowned Australian neurosurgeon Professor Charlie Teo. Charlie successfully operated on Kymm’s daughter in 2018, when others told her there was no hope. That experience forged a deep trust in his skill and compassion. Charlie is now only operating overseas, so Kymm and her husband Sam must now travel to China for this life-saving procedure.

Kymm is suffering daily with debilitating symptoms including headaches, vertigo, and double vision. Her condition has worsened to the point where migraines affect her vision and balance, making it difficult to work and enjoy her passion for gardening. Other surgeons have told her the tumour is inoperable. Charlie has treated similar cases with incredible success.

Despite her diagnosis, Kymm continues to work four days a week to support her family and help her daughter’s blossoming florist business. She’s fighting every day to maintain some normalcy — but as the tumour grows, so do the challenges.

The family has already spent more than $150,000 funding their daughter’s surgery and treatment. Kymm’s treatment will cost approximately $65,000, not including flights, accommodation, and post-op care — none of which is covered by private Health insurance. The financial strain is immense, and they need our help.
