Help Katherine Through Cancer Treatment

Hi, this is Sarah and Bron, two friends of the amazing Katherine – a much-loved community member, a mum, wife, and an incredible musician!!

First of all, thank you to all Katherine’s wonderful community for all the love and support during the ordeal of diagnosis and surgery in the past several months. Her and her young family feel so much gratitude for the generosity and kindness of the people around them.

In March this year, completely out of the blue, Katherine was diagnosed with two cancers. They are the same type but have grown separately, known as Synchronous Cancer. One is Stage 2, and the other had unfortunately progressed to Stage 3. Treatment began with major abdominal surgeries in March and May, and continues now with chemotherapy from June till early October, followed by Chemo-Radiation which will finish around mid-November. Katherine’s medical team are treating the cancer with the best intentions of a curative result, but as always with an illness like this there is some uncertainty around treatment outcomes.

Katherine is an extraordinarily talented freelance musician (cello), and while precarious employment is the norm in this type of profession, it does not leave any capacity to withstand major work interruptions like she is facing now. The news of this diagnosis, and the prospect of it effectively wiping out the rest of the year in a haze of hospital visits and procedures, illness and worry, at the same time as caring for two young daughters, has been a huge blow to Katherine and her family.

Katherine’s priority in life has always been helping others and sending love out into the world, through her music, her cooking, through pursuing a career in music therapy, and her generous warm spirit. It breaks our hearts that she is going through this ordeal.

For all those wanting to know how they can help, we are starting this Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds to help Katherine and her family cope with the heavy burden of financial worry that comes from the long course of treatment required for her cancers.

The money from this campaign will go towards things like assisting with medical bills, utilities, school excursions, and ensuring that her children don’t miss out on transformative opportunities such as an upcoming trip to Townsville for the QLD soccer state championship that one of them has been selected for.
