Help Kani’ya Finish Her Senior Year

I’m Kani’ya Davis, a senior journalism student at North Carolina A&T State University from Columbia, South Carolina.

Amongst many other titles, I’ve held the proud title of NAACP Creative Sole Scholar for the past three years. This scholarship program has truly changed my life for the better, allowing me to use the $20,000 award to fund my amazing educational experience at A&T. However, the benefits of this scholarship have come to an end sooner than I expected. Before I could renew my scholarship for the final year, yesterday I was alerted that the funder of the scholarship program abruptly pulled out, causing the program to be cut.

The news devastated me because I need that scholarship to cover my out-of-state tuition and housing expenses, as I was not given university housing for the upcoming year. Nonetheless, I didn’t let that break my spirit and decided to start looking for scholarships to replace the one I had just lost.

Then today, I received a call from my university’s study abroad office informing me that they could no longer give me additional aid for my study abroad trip to Ghana that is next month. I’ve been looking forward to this trip all semester and I was really counting on my university to help me get there. I’ve already invested hundreds of my personal dollars into this trip, and I’d hate to see it all go to waste.

With all that being said, I am humbly turning to my community for support. If you know me, you know I'm good at taking on big challenges alone. Always being sure not to burden anyone with the expense of my dreams. But I can not conquer this alone.
