This GoFundMe Page is for Jimmy Campbell, his wife, Shonda, and their special needs son Grayson. Please help Jimmy walk again by getting a prosthetic leg and to help with other expenses!!
As many of you know, Jimmy has a bone disease and had multiple fractures as a kid. He had spent much time in the hospital in traction or at home in body casts. Many times, one of his friends came to our house to say that Jimmy broke a bone, playing touch football, baseball, etc.. He always kept a positive attitude and spending a lot of time in hospitals and casts as a child made him stronger. Fortunately, his legs stopped breaking as an adult, until he went on vacation to the Grand Canyon during October 2021, where he fractured his right femur. He had surgery with a rod and screws to repair the leg. A few months after the operation, his leg began to swell. The swelling was due to a tumor, and after multiple biopsies, it turned out to be cancer. The tumor continued to grow in his right thigh to the point where he looked like he was nine months pregnant in the thigh due to the mass. In a sense, the leg breaking saved his life since he would have not found out about the cancer until it spread throughout his body. Jimmy went through three rounds of chemotherapy, hoping to make the tumor small enough so the doctors would be able to operate and remove the tumor. Unfortunately, the tumor did not respond to the chemo and the cancer ate away all the bone in his leg and his pelvic bone on his right side. The doctors gave Jimmy a choice either amputate his leg and live or keep his leg and die. Jimmy chose to live and kept a positive attitude and humor throughout the ordeal. The day before the operation, Jimmy was getting physical therapy and was dragging the large leg as he walked down the hall. The therapist stated that this walk was the best one that Jimmy did during his many months in the hospital. Without hesitation, Jimmy tells her jokingly. “Well, Marie Antoinette had her best hair day on the day she went to the guillotine, it’s the same with my leg.” After removing the leg in July, he had to endure three more rounds of chemo, as well as many tests and biopsies. Jimmy has a few more upcoming surgeries and will have to go for scans regularly. He’s looking forward to when he will be able to be fitted for a prosthetic leg. His insurance will only cover a basic prosthetic leg. Jimmy is determined to walk and possibly run again, so he would like to get a leg that will allow him to bend the knee and have more control. His family would like to see that happen. During our recent visit to Texas, we convinced Jimmy and Shonda to let us set up this GoFundMe Page for them. The goal is to help in getting his desired leg as well as assistance with ongoing expenses. Please help us make his dream a reality. Any amount that you can give to help Jimmy and Shonda with the next step in their journey would be greatly appreciated.
With love and gratitude on behalf of Jimmy, Shonda, and Grayson.
