Help Hal Overcome Aggressive Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hal. I’m 49 years old, single, and live in Prince William County, Virginia, in the Greater Washington, D.C. area. I’ve called this community home since 2008, and over the years, I’ve embraced its diversity and the way people with different viewpoints can come together.

Faith is very important to me. I attend church regularly—both online and in person—and I try to live a life of service. Over the years, I’ve volunteered at women’s shelters, mentored teenage boys, and co-facilitated men’s groups. When I’m not working or volunteering, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and spending time with friends.

In November 2024, my life changed. After years of intermittent aches, lower back pain, and inflammation—despite normal PSA numbers—I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Acinar adenocarcinoma, the most common form of prostate cancer. The biopsy showed high-grade, aggressive cancer with Gleason scores of 8 and 9 in several areas, meaning the cancer is both widespread and aggressive.

I’m currently undergoing a treatment plan that includes medication, microcurrent therapy, and daily oral medication. I travel nearly 60 miles, four days a week, for my treatments. The physical toll is real—cancer has forced me to scale back at work, and the fatigue and back weakness can be overwhelming. Even so, I continue working part-time in a non-profit and as a clinical resident, balancing my fight for health with my passion for serving others.

My 4-month treatment plan, including specialized prescriptions and travel costs, totals $5,100. Insurance doesn’t cover these expenses, and I cannot manage the full cost on my own. That’s why I’m reaching out to ask for help from friends, family, and the broader community.

I remain committed to my personal mission:
"I co-create a world of responsible mentors through modeling and affirming."

I’m deeply grateful for the prayers, calls, fellowship, and treatment access already offered by loved ones. Whether you can contribute financially or simply share my story, your support makes a difference. Every gift helps me get closer to recovery and allows me to continue the work I love in my community.

If you’d like, you can donate anonymously—your support is just as meaningful whether your name is shown or not.

Please consider donating or sharing my campaign. Together, we can face this cancer with hope, strength, and faith.
