On Sunday Afternoon Feb 23rd 2025, I got a call from Gerry Carthy and he said’ bad news…., I am in the Emergency Room at Christus St Vincent’s, and the cancer is back..Lacy drove me here today’

I was in total shock when he said that, so I asked a few questions ..

Did they do a biopsy already?

Are they certain about the cancer being back?

Lacey then got on the line and said ‘ the Oncologist here reviewed the recent chest xray that Gerry’s regular Oncologist had ordered two weeks prior and it showed two large masses one around the lungs and the other mass around the kidneys or liver’….

Now,back to today, early December 2025, Gerry is in better form, getting chemotherapy treatment for a rare type of cancer: Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST),he’s back at his music venues picking up a few more regular gigs on his way to a full recovery.

Seeing how he had lost all those gigs from February 2025 until now, with well over 9 months of lost income, and back at it again is quite amazing, more of a miracle that he has recovered so well as he was in hospice care from late April 2025 until just two months ago in September. Many weren’t sure six months ago that he’d be around…..

2025 has been a rough year for Gerry and on top of that, 2024 was even far worse due to the loss of Gerry’s son Michael Carthy on July 4th of that year.

I am asking all you here who are reading this to please lend a hand to help Gerry with the medical costs that he incurred in 2025.
