Imagine….

You can hardly walk anymore.

Your eyes no longer function properly.

You have trouble swallowing.

You suffer from muscle cramps/spasms.

You experience loss of strength in your limbs.

You are often dizzy.

You have problems with your speech.

You can no longer manage your daily life

These are the everyday things that my partner Gerda has been dealing with for 46 years.

She has progressive MS and is deteriorating rapidly.

There is no more treatment for her in the Netherlands!

But there is hope. She is a candidate for a stem cell transplant (aHsct).

A heavy treatment that leads to stability of the PPMS.

To date, this treatment has not yet been performed and reimbursed in the Netherlands.

The treatment can be started on November 21, 2022 in Mexico, lasts 28 days.

In 2017 she went to the doctor with vague complaints and has been to a neurologist and rheumatologist many times.

Many diagnoses and even treated for this, but nothing helped!

Sometimes treatment only made it worse. Also because of the anesthesia of an operation that the doctor advised.

This did not go as planned and now appears to have triggered the MS too much.

So instead of feeling better, she started to feel worse and her body could do less and less.

Fortunately, her spirit has always remained strong and she will never give up laughing. which in itself is positive!

But there was still a moment when she really didn't like life anymore.

The neurologist and rheumatologist referred her to a psychiatrist.

But she was sure “it's not in the mind”!

With the help of the GP we were referred to another hospital.

There, a neurologist had an MRI done, and on March 27, 2019 she was diagnosed with MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. MS.

Unfortunately, that's how the progressive form appears to be.

With this form you gradually deteriorate and there is no chance of recovery.

This has led Gerda to experience several physical complaints such as:

Can walk less.

Being extremely tired.

Has less power.

Has less feeling.

Has muscle cramps and muscle spasms.

Her skin is sore and so much so that she often cannot bear clothes.

She sees less and less.

Has many cognitive complaints.

Gets speech problems.

Bladder and stool complaints.

Experiencing extreme pain.

Has swallowing problems, so the risk of suffocation has become very great. This happens to her more and more and often happens in her sleep, this is also very scary

In fact, it is impossible to explain what she experiences physically and mentally,

The will to get rid of it is great, but it is now clear that the damage that has now been done will never be repaired.

That's why it's so important that she can get the stem cell transplant as soon as possible so she doesn't get worse. and the MS gets a stop!

Hopefully together we can raise this amount! And every little bit helps.

Gerda will be eternally grateful if she can get this chance!

Deze behandeling wordt tot op heden nog niet uitgevoerd en vergoed in Nederland.

De behandeling kan op 21 november 2022 gestart worden in mexico, duurt 28 dagen.

Lees hieronder eventueel het verhaal van gerda.

In 2017 ging ze met vage klachten naar de dokter en is vele malen bij een neuroloog en reumatoloog geweest.

vele diagnoses gekregen en hiervoor zelfs ook behandeld, maar niks hielp!

Soms werd het door een behandeling alleen maar erger. Zo ook door de narcose van een operatie die arts adviseerden.

Deze verliep niet zoals gepland en blijkt nu ook de MS erg getriggerd te hebben.

Dus in plaats van dat ze zich beter ging voelen, ging ze zich steeds slechter voelen en kon haar lichaam steeds minder. 

Haar geest is gelukkig nog wel altijd sterk gebleven en ze zal het lachen nooit opgeven. wat op zich positief is!

Maar toch was er een moment dat ze het leven echt niet meer zag zitten.

De neuroloog en reumatoloog verwezen haar door naar een psychiater.

Maar ze wist het zeker “het zit niet tussen de oren”!

Met hulp van de huisarts hebben we een doorverwijzing gekregen naar een ander Ziekenhuis.

Daar heeft een neuroloog een MRI laten maken, en op 27 maart 2019 kreeg ze de diagnose MULTIPLE SCLEROSE. MS. 

Helaas zo blijkt inmiddels de progressieve vorm.

Bij deze vorm ga je geleidelijk achteruit en kans van herstel is er niet. 

Dit heeft bij Gerda tot nu toe geleid dat ze meerderde lichamelijke klachten ervaart zoals bv: 

Minder kunnen lopen. 

Extreem moe zijn.

Minder kracht heeft. 

Minder gevoel heeft.

Spierkrampen en spierspasmes heeft.

Haar huid pijnlijk is en zelfs zo erg dat ze vaak geen kleren kan verdragen.

Ze steeds minder ziet. 

Veel cognitieve klachten heeft.

Spraak problemen krijgt.

Blaas en ontlasting klachten ervaart.

Extreem veel pijn ervaart.

Slikproblemen heeft, waardoor dus het gevaar van stikken erg groot is geworden. Dit overkomt haar steeds meer en gebeurt ook vaak in haar slaap, dit is ook erg beangstigend

Eigenlijk is het niet uit te leggen wat ze lichamelijk en geestelijk ervaart,

De wil om ervan af te komen is groot maar inmiddels is het duidelijk dat de schade die er nu is nooit meer hersteld. 

Daarom is het zo belangrijk dat ze zo snel mogelijk de stamceltransplantatie kan krijgen zodat ze niet slechter wordt. en de MS een stop krijgt!

Met elkaar kunnen we dit bedrag hopelijk bij elkaar krijgen! En alle kleine beetjes helpen.

note: mocht het ondanks alles niet lukken het benodigde bedrag bij elkaar te krijgen, wordt er gekeken wat er eventueel nodig zal om het leven met ms dragelijk te maken voor Gerda, denk aan aanpassingen in huis. De rest zal blijven in de stichting op de bres tegen ms die zich inzet voor Hsct patienten!

Met elkaar kunnen we dit bedrag hopelijk bij elkaar krijgen! En alle kleine beetjes helpen.
