"The equal right of all men to the use of land is as clear as their equal right to breathe the air — it is a right proclaimed by the fact of their existence. For we cannot suppose that some men have a right to be in this world, and others no right."
-Henry George
The ideas of Henry George are vital to producing a just and vibrant economic system which serves everyone. With a recent surge of interest in Georgism, new institutions are needed to make Georgists effective in the modern era. A student organization is a vital step towards helping more people engage with Georgist thought. Students are more interested in new political ideas, more dissatisfied with the current economic and political climate, and acutely feel the effects of high land prices.
Young Georgists of America will serve as an introduction to Georgist thought for thousands of college students across the country. By engaging students early with advocacy, events, and connections to existing organizations, it will help channel people into activism, research, and politics to put Georgist ideas into practice.
Our mission statement is: As Young Georgists, we will educate and empower students to effectively advocate for the principles of Georgism. By training the leaders of the future, we seek to create a free and just society which recognizes the common right of humanity to the earth.
In order to accomplish these goals, we need a certain amount of resources. To begin with, we are asking for $2,000 to incorporate and produce the necessary materials to open chapters for the start of the next school year. Our fundraising milestones are as follows:
$150- state incorporation
$350- website creation
$500- publishing activism materials
$2000- filing for recognition as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization
State incorporation includes cost of filing and of hiring a registered agent.
Website creation includes graphic design, web design, and hosting costs
Publishing activism materials is for flyers, pamphlets, postcards, and handbooks to send to local chapters for their activism activities
The 501(c)3 filing costs include the filing fee with the IRS and legal consultation.
Thank you for your support. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or wish for additional materials.
