Hello,
Our names are Samira Hey and Kara Duffy. We're in Grade 12 in the IB program, which requires us to fulfill a "Personal Project" in which we take initiative and lead in a cause or activity of our choice. We wanted to help this cause and so it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
Samira's mother, Annie Pageau, used to live in Uganda 20 years ago. She had started a small business called "Papercraft Africa" (https://www.papercraftafrica.com/) in a small village called Namulanda (between Kampala and Entebbe, for reference) which is still running today. This business has created a community and the majority of the initial workers are still employed there, alongside their children in some cases. Work is scarce in Uganda and the workers are happy to be able to provide better opportunities for their children. For a couple of years, Annie has been funding school for ten of the children of its workers. However, after the extra economic stress resulting from COVID, this year more parents asked for help as well and that number increased to 25 children. We were hoping you would be willing to help us cover the rest of the tuition fees. About 3000 euros are required 3 times per year to cover all the tuition fees for all 25 children and 100% of the money collected goes directly to pay the fees. There are no overhead or administrative costs
We believed that this was a cause we wanted to help because of the benefit it will give these kids for the rest of their life. Assuring they can attend school will help them become self-sufficient and more successful in the future. They will be able to use their education as a building block to help them in future endeavors, as this will open up many more doors and possibilities to them which they might otherwise not have been able to obtain. In helping fund their education, you will help provide them with a life-changing opportunity.
The children are aged 6-18 and are a combination of boys and girls. The names of the children we would be helping are Kimala Sharif, William Katula, Ssemyalo Davis Joel, Nakassi Jackcline, Nabyonga Faith, Moses Wegulo, Aaron Mayanja, Shillah Nanyonjo, Sharrif Kyeyune, Lusisa Prince Jonathan, Patience Namala, Phiona Namuddu, Nabyonga Dorah, Nansikombi Desire, Kantiti Deborah, Victor Serubidde, Namirembe Jane, Najjuma Joyce, Wanyana Favor, Torofosa Taaka, Nalubwama Dorothy, Nakimuli Dorcas, Nalukwago Mercy, Jovia Mudde and Angel Margret.
Harriet Nantale, manager at Papercraft Africa believes in this being an extraordinary opportunity for the children and references a quote from Malcolm X: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”
Thank you for your time and consideration!
We hope you will consider our cause as something you would like to help.
Sincerely,
Kara and Samira
