Help Frida Catlo Save Her Eyes!

Hello from Darcy the Feline Foster!

Meet my beautiful foster cat, Frida Catlo, who came to Maine all the way from Puerto Rico to get medical care and find a forever home. She needs our help! You see, Frida has a congenital eye abnormality in which much of her upper eyelids are simply missing. She can see just fine, but she is susceptible to frequent and painful eye infections due to her hair rubbing and scratching the surface of her eyes. I took Frida to the ophthalmologist, who said they could try cryotherapy to remove the fur above her eyes first, reducing the irritation, but it is very expensive and often doesn't work long-term. Ultimately, she needs reconstructive surgery to build new eyelids.

Unfortunately, this reconstructive surgery is too expensive for the shelter to pay out of their general medical fund, which is low, so they are faced with having to remove her eyes altogether. Can you imagine? How very sad for Frida.

I think we can do better.

I am trying to raise funds specifically for Frida's surgery so we can save her eyes and eyesight. She doesn't deserve to be blinded because of human funding. Can you help!!??

I am lucky enough to be connected Frida's original rescuer in Puerto Rico, Maria, who brings home, spays and neuters, and then releases many of Puerto Rico's street cats. Just months ago, Frida was part of a large group of cats that Maria brought into her home. Upon release time, Frida had a significant eye infection and needed to stay with Maria longer. Days after the release, Maria was told by a community member that 15 of those newly released cats were poisoned and died. Ironically, Frida was saved by her eye condition. Maria named her "Frida the Long-Suffering" after the famously brave and resilient Frida Kahlo, because most of her life she has been in pain. Frida was flown from Puerto Rico to Maine to get the help she needs. I think we are obligated to provide it. Together, honor the good will of Maria and save Frida Catlo's eyes.
