Surgery, love and friendship. Matthew Martens

Have you ever had that one person who makes you want to go to work each day because of how he will brighten your day the minute you see him? He is that co-worker who also became a dear friend, someone who makes you laugh, sings randomly and can quote anything from The Golden Girls. He’s also the first person to text, call, or give you a hug when you are down. That person in my life is Matthew Martens and now is the time to show him how much we love him and want him to get better and be comfortable.

As some may already know, Matthew has/had a rare form of cancer called pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) also known as appendix cancer. Unfortunately, Matthew had a set back in mid September and was hospitalized with an obstruction and was quickly sent back to Pittsburgh for an emergency surgery. Since then, it’s been 1 step forward and two steps back. While back at home recovering, Matthew developed an infection and is currently back in the hospital. With his body valiantly fighting, he has been out of work since mid September and will not be back for the foreseeable future.

Matthew will not have an income for many months. He will have travel expenses, medical expenses as well as overall living expenses that will need to be covered. He has been a color specialist at Rocco-Altobelli Salon for over 35 years and has touched the lives of many clients and co-workers, asking nothing in return.

Therefore, I am organizing this fundraiser in hopes of making life a little easier for a person who has spent his life giving to others. As we are in the season of thanksgiving, any amount that you can donate will be very helpful!
